Coming out is a long and sometimes painful process. After almost 8 years, I am still learning.
First you have to come out to yourself. Internalized homophobia is the hardest thing to get rid of. If you can't accept your sexuality and live with it (and pursue your happiness based on who you really are, not who you want to be) how do you expect others to accept you? I believe it's the biggest step you have to take. Once you're through with the self-acceptance, nothing is impossible.
I must admit I still can't accept my gayness 100% at all occasions. That's my hurdle, and I am learning.
