In 1990, I lived with a roommate (one of five siblings) whose father 'came out' at the age of 62 after five children and 35 years of marriage. (As it happens, he --the father-- wound up dating my boyfriend at the time.) -- Just think about this a moment.
In a recent USENET article, I noticed and responded to a post containing
the following:
>>...study says that non-religious homes have a 450% higher chance
>>of producing a homosexual child <-- points to problems in the home.
>Jeffrey Dahmer was raised in a Christian Fundamentalist home.
My reply:
Non-religious homes have a 450% higher chance of producing a child that
can ACCEPT his/her sexuality without fear of retribution, promoting
mental stability (at least until 'society' gets word of it).
End of reply...
I believe that of the animal kingdom, humans are the only ones who make a distinction between 'gay' and 'straight' and accept that role for life. Other species engage in both homosexual and heterosexual activity without regard. To label any activity as 'normal' or 'abnormal' only reflects the societal pressures on the individual.
I would certainly not call my beliefs Christian (mainly because I wish not to be associated in any manner with the right-wing idiots), but even the Bible states that the first sin was mankind's acceptance of the knowledge of 'good' and 'evil'. (ie, Eve ate the damn fruit of the 'tree of knowledge').
My interpretation of this is that we are the ones who define that 'knowledge', and the resultant taboo and commendatory acts have nothing to do with our 'nature', but represent the power-plays by the religions that we follow.
I will agree with Arthur C. Clarke in this matter... "Anyone who is 100% homosexual or 100% heterosexual (including fantasies and private thoughts) is pathological and should be institutionalized."
