Well, friend, you can start by understanding that by coming out you are undoubtedly going to put a wrench in ALL of the relationships you participate in. Take it as a given. If you and your ex-girlfriend are still close to each other, tell her first. If she's REALLY your friend, she'll accept you for who you are, not what she would like you to be. Don't think that she's not going to be shocked by the news. After all, she dated a GAY (horror or horrors) man! She may respond by backing off the relationship for a time. This is OK - - - give her some space. The next thing you should prepare yourself for is the fact that she's going to tell someone - - - probably her present boyfriend. This will probably be a real test to his own ego (my friend is a fag???---NAW!) Take this process one step at a time. Tell your ex-girlfriend, then write back here and let us all know what happened. Hopefully you will experience a positive response. If not, we'll be here for you.
